Portfolio Named Rising Star by Ohio Department of Development

Portfolio Creative has been awarded “Rising Star” in the Keys To Success Awards 2009, sponsored by the Ohio Department of Development’s Entrepreneurship and Small Business Division. The Keys to Success Awards took place on November 19th at the Verne Riffe Center in Columbus, Ohio.
The Keys to Success Award Program showcases Ohio’s leading women-owned businesses and rewards their personal achievements, economic power and financial/operational strength. This program has recognized and honored women-business owners since 1996, and was formerly known as the Governor’s Excellence Enterprise Awards. Portfolio Creative received the “Rising Star” award, which is given to one recipient who has been in business less than five years. To be considered for the award, businesses must be majority female owned, have sales greater than $250K, be Ohio-based, in operation for at least one year and be well-established, growing and profitable for the 2008 federal tax reporting period.

Portfolio Creative Named Small Business Leader Finalist

Portfolio Creative was named a finalist in the Small Business Leader Awards, sponsored by the Columbus Chamber of Commerce. We were one of five finalists in the Over $1 Million category. The awards event took place at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Columbus on Tuesday, November 10th, 2009.
The Small Business Leader Awards were created in 1985 to recognize the achievements of local business owners who have achieved company success while contributing to the development of the community. This year's winner was Kamal Boulos of the Refectory Restaurant and Bistro.
Kristen Harris contributes to Business First article
Kristen Harris, co-owner and founder of Portfolio Creative, was recently quoted in Columbus Business First. The article, 'Battered and bruised, staffing firms positioning for a rebound', appeared in the October 30th issue.
Staff writer Jan O'Daniel explains how staffing firms felt the effects of the economic downturn but are now seeing some light. Kristen was quoted as saying, 'The general wisdom is that during a recession the staffing business does well, but the reality is, people don't need extra help or any help for that matter. What we find, though, is that there's some correlation that when the gross national product reaches a certain number, the staffing industry picks up.' Kristen also acknowledges Portfolio's plans for growth as the staffing trend continues to gradually increase. 'We're looking at new services that are still in the creative niche, as well as how to work with groups of talent we don't work with right now'.

(COLUMBUS, OH) – Portfolio Creative Staffing, the nation’s 326th fastest growing company as ranked by Inc. magazine, will change its name to Portfolio Creative as of September 1, 2009. The name change will be accompanied by a new logo as part of a rebrand strategy aimed at better communicating the firm’s evolving services.
“While our focus will continue to be on temporary staffing of creative professionals, we also offer things like direct hire services, recruiting and payroll,” said Catherine Lang-Cline, co-owner and founder. “It made sense for us to evolve our brand more broadly as we’ve grown, to reflect a wider range of workforce services.”
